Location:

North Montgomery County Community Center

600 Gerald St, Willis, TX 77378

ABOUT:

A Will-a-Thon lets lawyers provide life-changing help in just a few hours. Many low-income individuals—especially seniors, single parents, and veterans—lack basic estate planning documents, leaving their families vulnerable to costly legal battles or delays when they pass away. In this 2 part basic wills volunteer opportunity, you can help multiple families protect their assets and ensure their wishes are honored.

ALL REGISTRANTS WILL BE ENTITLED TO AN 1 HOUR BASIC ESTATE PLANNING and Clinic Training CLE HELD VIA ZOOM ON Wednesday August 26, 2026 at 1pm.

WHAT WILL VOLUNTEERS DO?

As a volunteer lawyer, you’ll provide direct, one-on-one legal assistance to clients who otherwise would not have access to these critical services. Your role will include:

  • Consulting with Clients:
  • Meet with pre-screened individuals to understand their wishes, family situation, and asset details. Clients will enter into an Engagement Letter with you and CCLA (CCLA does carry professional liability insurance).
  • Preparing Basic Estate Planning Documents:
  • Draft clear, customized legal documents to protect the client’s wishes, including:
  • Last Will and Testament – to direct the distribution of property and care for minor children.
  • Durable Powers of Attorney – to designate trusted individuals to handle financial and legal matters if the client becomes unable to do so.
  • Medical Powers of Attorney & Advance Directives – to ensure health care decisions reflect the client’s wishes.
  • Preparing a Transfer on Death Deed (if needed):
  • When appropriate, create this document to allow real property to transfer directly to a beneficiary upon death without going through probate.
  • Explaining the Documents:
  • Review each document with the client, answer questions in plain language, and ensure they leave with a clear understanding of how their plan works.

You’ll be supported by intake staff, notaries, and witnesses, so you can focus on providing quality legal counsel and preparing the documents that will protect your client’s legacy.

What to Bring & Wear

We want you to be comfortable and ready to connect with clients. Here’s all you need:

  • Casual attire is fine! We just ask that your outfit is professional enough for meeting with clients.
  • Bring a friendly face & willingness to serve
  • We’ll provide all legal forms, instructions, and on-site support so you can focus on helping clients.
